Dr Sathish Parthasarathy

Dr Sathish Babu Parthasarathy is a Consultant Physician specialising in Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Internal Medicine. He currently works as a Lead Clinician at the Princess Royal Hospital, part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. With more than two decades of medical experience, he brings extensive clinical, academic and leadership expertise to the management of metabolic and endocrine conditions.

Dr Parthasarathy completed his medical degree (MBBS) in India in 2001 and has worked within the National Health Service in the United Kingdom since then. He completed his specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology at King’s College Hospital in London. He holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP UK) and also obtained a specialty MRCP in Endocrinology and Diabetes. He is dual accredited in both General Internal Medicine and Diabetes and Endocrinology, enabling him to provide a holistic approach when managing complex medical conditions. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Sciences from the University of Warwick.

His clinical practice covers a broad range of endocrine and metabolic conditions. He has particular interests in bariatric medicine, Type 2 diabetes and diabetic foot disease. He regularly manages complex endocrine disorders involving the thyroid, adrenal, parathyroid and pituitary glands, as well as metabolic disturbances such as hyponatraemia. He also treats patients with concerns related to weight gain and metabolic health, diabetes and diabetes-related complications, sex hormone disorders including polycystic ovarian syndrome, and endocrine causes of chronic fatigue and lethargy.

Dr Parthasarathy’s clinical responsibilities include inpatient medical care, specialist diabetes and endocrine outpatient clinics, young adult diabetes services, pregnancy-related diabetes management and Tier 4 specialist obesity services. He also leads the Adult Prader–Willi Syndrome Endocrine Clinic, a multidisciplinary service providing specialised care for patients with this complex condition.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Parthasarathy is actively involved in medical education and clinical governance. He serves as a Clinical and Educational Supervisor, an OSCE examiner, and an assessor for nurse and allied health professional prescribers. Since 2018 he has also served as the Diabetes and Endocrine Clinical Incident Lead for the East Division of University Hospitals Sussex, where he oversees patient safety initiatives, reviews clinical incidents and contributes to quality improvement and audit activities. He also acts as Diabetes Foot Lead and is a member of both the Inpatient Diabetes Care Committee and the Mortality and Morbidity Review Panel.

Dr Parthasarathy has contributed to a number of national audits and has presented research at major conferences including those organised by the Royal Society of Medicine and Diabetes UK. His publications cover a range of clinical topics such as SIADH, diabetic ketoacidosis, thyroid carcinoma and diabetic foot disease. He has authored work across several areas of endocrinology and diabetes care.

He is also actively involved in clinical research and currently serves as a Principal or Sub-Principal Investigator on several clinical trials, including the REDUCE and DOMINO-DFU studies focusing on diabetic foot ulcer management. Dr Parthasarathy is a member of several professional organisations including the Royal College of Physicians, the Society for Endocrinology, the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists and the World Obesity Federation.
