I am Mr Sandeep Kondisetty, a Consultant Urologist at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, specialising in prostate disease, prostate cancer and robotic radical prostatectomy. I have been a Consultant Urologist in Wolverhampton since January 2022 and have developed a focused specialist practice in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
My clinical practice includes assessment of raised PSA, prostate MRI and biopsy results, prostate cancer diagnosis and staging, multidisciplinary treatment planning, robotic surgery and postoperative follow-up. I perform a high volume of robotic radical prostatectomies annually, with a particular interest in achieving effective cancer control while preserving urinary and sexual function where clinically appropriate.
I understand that being investigated for prostate cancer or receiving a cancer diagnosis can be an anxious experience. My aim is to provide clear, straightforward information and ensure that patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, potential benefits and risks before making decisions about their care.
Prostate disease is the main focus of my clinical practice. I assess patients with raised PSA, abnormal prostate examinations, prostate enlargement and suspected or confirmed prostate cancer.
For patients with a raised PSA or other concerns, I review the clinical history, examination findings, PSA trends and prostate imaging, including MRI where appropriate. Where further investigation is required, I explain the role and implications of prostate biopsy and other diagnostic tests.
For patients diagnosed with prostate cancer, I participate in the specialist Uro-Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT), working alongside urologists, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and specialist nurses. This allows the clinical findings, MRI, pathology and individual patient circumstances to be considered together when developing a treatment plan.
Depending on the grade and stage of prostate cancer, appropriate management may include active surveillance, surgery, radiotherapy or other specialist treatments. I discuss the relevant options with patients and explain their potential benefits, limitations and side effects.
My principal surgical specialism is robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) for prostate cancer.
I undertook extensive specialist training in robotic uro-oncological surgery in the UK, including a Royal College of Surgeons of England-approved Urology International Surgical Training Programme, followed by a dedicated Robotic Uro-Oncology Fellowship at Liverpool University Hospitals.
My training included structured robotic bedside and console experience and dedicated robotic simulation training. I subsequently gained extensive experience in robotic pelvic surgery during my fellowship and consultant practice.
I now perform a high annual volume of robotic radical prostatectomies, maintaining a focused practice in this specialist procedure.
Robotic radical prostatectomy removes the prostate and seminal vesicles using minimally invasive robotic surgery. Where appropriate, the surgical approach may allow preservation of structures important for urinary continence and sexual function. However, the extent of preservation depends on the location and characteristics of the cancer and cannot be guaranteed in every patient.
During consultation, I explain the potential benefits and risks of surgery, including urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, recovery time and the possibility of requiring further treatment. I also discuss postoperative rehabilitation and PSA monitoring.
I believe prostate cancer treatment should address both cancer control and quality of life.
For patients considering surgery, I discuss the cancer characteristics, expected benefits of treatment, alternative treatment options and potential functional consequences. Where clinically appropriate, nerve-sparing surgery may be considered, while maintaining cancer control as the primary objective.
I aim to ensure that patients understand their diagnosis and feel able to ask questions before making treatment decisions.
I have worked as a Consultant Urologist at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust since 2022. My current practice includes specialist prostate cancer clinics, uro-oncology MDT meetings, robotic operating lists and postoperative care.
I completed my MBBS at Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, followed by MS General Surgery and MCh Urology at Amrita School of Medicine. I subsequently completed UK specialist urology training through the Royal College of Surgeons of England-approved International Surgical Training Programme and a dedicated Robotic Uro-Oncology Fellowship at Liverpool University Hospitals.
I was awarded FRCS Urology in 2024 through the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Association of Surgeons of India, and a member of the European Association of Urology and British Association of Urological Surgeons.
I maintain an active interest in research and evidence-based urological practice, with peer-reviewed publications and involvement in international collaborative research in urological oncology and surgical outcomes.
I am also involved in medical education and have served as faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Basic Surgical Skills Course, Urology Bootcamp and BAUS FRCS(Urol) teaching programmes.
I believe that excellent prostate cancer care combines specialist surgical expertise, clear communication and individualised treatment.
During consultation, I aim to understand your concerns and priorities, review your PSA, MRI and biopsy results, explain your diagnosis clearly and discuss the treatment options appropriate to your circumstances.
For patients considering robotic radical prostatectomy, I explain the operation, expected recovery, potential complications and possible effects on urinary continence and sexual function. I also discuss the importance of follow-up and PSA monitoring after treatment.
My aim is to provide patients with expert, evidence-based and compassionate care throughout their prostate cancer journey—from initial investigation and diagnosis through treatment and follow-up.
