About Mr Sam Evans
Mr Sam Evans is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with specialist expertise in cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, and the management of a broad range of eye conditions.
He completed his early medical training in the South West of England, working as a junior doctor in Exeter and Barnstaple before relocating to Wales in 2009 to undertake specialist ophthalmology training. Over the following decade, he trained across South Wales, including Carmarthen and later the University Hospital of Wales, where he developed advanced expertise in ophthalmic surgery.
Mr Evans completed higher subspecialty training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery, providing specialist care for conditions affecting the eyelids, tear drainage system, eye socket, and surrounding structures. Alongside this, he gained extensive experience in cataract surgery and general ophthalmology.
In 2019, he returned to Exeter as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He has played a significant role in developing streamlined cataract treatment pathways and has pioneered "see-and-treat" cataract services in the South West and Wales. I recently had bi-lateral cataract surgery. The process was explained in a professional manner but in a way that was easy to understand. The procedure was made as comfortable as it could be.
