About Miss Rumina Begum
Miss Rumina Begum is a Consultant Orthopaedic Hand and Wrist Surgeon at Broomfield Hospital, part of the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust. Known for her professional and personalised approach, Miss Begum prioritises creating a relaxed atmosphere for her patients and employs the latest surgical techniques, including minimally invasive procedures, to achieve optimal outcomes.
Miss Begum graduated with first-class honours in neuroscience from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, where she also earned her medical degree. She completed her foundation and core surgical training in London, followed by higher trauma and orthopaedic specialist training in the North East and East of England rotations. Her advanced interface fellowship training took place in Norwich, and she further honed her skills with fellowships at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit and North Shore Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. She passed the British Diploma in Hand Surgery and entered the specialist register in 2021.
In addition to her clinical practice, Miss Begum is passionate about training and education. She serves as the Unit Training Director for orthopaedic trainees at Basildon Hospital and has been actively involved in both formal and informal teaching throughout her career. She contributes to the field by regularly reviewing for the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Volume) and serving as a tutor and faculty member for the BSSH Hand Diploma.
Miss Begum has an extensive research background, including wet lab research on silk as nerve graft conduits and leading as the trainee Principal Investigator in a nationwide randomised controlled trial. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and has presented her research at national and international conferences.

Miss Rumina Begum was really understanding and helpfull when I recently had hand osteoarthritis she talked me through all aspects of the procedure for Trepeziecomy and could not be more helpfull.
I can't thank you enough for giving me my hand back, my bent fingers made life quite awkward. I was also told it would be very painful by my doctor,thanks to your skill.iv only had the occasional ache.You are the best.❤️
Explains everything to me & made me feel comfortable
I went into Springfield Hospital for a Fasciectomy to correct a Dupytrens contracture on my right hand on the 26th September 2024. Miss Begnum and her theatre team were professional and made me feel at ease as this was the first procedure I have had at the grand age of 58. Miss Begum came to see me before the procedure and afterwards in recovery. Today the 31st October I had an appointment with Miss Begum to follow up my progress and she was very professional and was happy with my progress as my hand had healed in 4 and half weeks. Words cannot describe her professionalism and this goes to all the team at Springfield Hospital. Many thanks for what you done.
