Dr Ruichong Ma

Dr Ruichong Ma is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with a subspecialist focus in neuro-oncology and complex epilepsy. Dedicated to delivering advanced surgical care, he works collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to provide personalised, evidence-based treatment plans for individuals facing complex neurological conditions. Dr Ma prioritises clear communication and reassuring care, ensuring patients and their families feel fully supported throughout every stage of their treatment journey.

In his clinical practice, Dr Ma performs a broad spectrum of surgical procedures for brain tumours, central nervous system conditions, and medically refractory epilepsy. He is highly skilled in utilising state-of-the-art neuro-oncological techniques, including intraoperative mapping, awake craniotomy, minimally invasive endoscopic-assisted surgery, and intraventricular endoscopy for managing tumours and cysts. For patients with complex epilepsy, he provides comprehensive surgical treatments, including vagal nerve stimulation, implantable stereo-EEG monitoring, and resective brain surgery.

Dr Ma earned his medical degree from the University of Oxford, where he also graduated with a first-class honours degree in medical sciences. He subsequently completed an Academic Foundation Programme post at the University of Cambridge before returning to Oxford for specialist training in neurosurgery. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Medical Sciences from the University of Oxford, where his research focused on the immune microenvironment in glioblastoma. To further enhance his clinical skills, Dr Ma completed two Royal College of Surgeons Senior Clinical Fellowships in neuro-oncology and complex epilepsy, alongside holding an Academic Clinical Lecturer position.
