Dr. Rosario Mela

Dr. Rosario Mela is an experienced Oral Surgeon with over 25 years of expertise in the field of oral surgery. He graduated from University of Florence, Italy, in 1992 and completed his specialty training in Odonto-Stomatology three years later.

Dr. Mela had a distinguished career in the Italian Air Force Medical Service, retiring in 2019 with the rank of Colonel. He joined the Practice Plus Group Hospital in Southampton in 2020, continuing his work in oral surgery. His military background includes a prestigious education at the Nunziatella Military School and the Italian Defence Medical Academy, where he trained as part of the Class 17° of cadets.

From 1993 to 1994, he served as the Director of the Health Service at the Italian Air Force Military Airport in Gioia del Colle, and later as the Air Force Combat Wing MED Officer. He served in various capacities, including a consultant for dental specialty with the Joint Military Medical Legal Board from 1996 to 2001 and as the Director of the Health Service at the Centre for Interforce Intelligence in Rome from 2001 to 2006.

Dr. Mela's career also involved teaching dentistry at the Institute for Improvement and Training in Aeronautics and Space Medicine of the Italian Air Force from 2007 to 2009 and leading the Department of Dentistry at the Aerospace Medical Institute of Rome until 2015. Between 2015 and 2019, he was the Director of the Health Service for the Italian National Military Representative at SHAPE NATO.

In addition to his military service, Dr. Mela ran his own Dental Clinic specialising in oral surgery and implantology from 1996 to 2015. His special interest lies in Advanced Dental Implantology and all aspects of Oral Surgery.
