Mr Rory O’Connor is a consultant oral and maxillofacial surgeon at Spire Nottingham Hospital. He has a special interest in the treatment of post-traumatic facial deformities, offering a personalised approach to care that prioritises the individual rather than solely the injury. His work ranges from scar management to complex bone and soft tissue reconstruction, often involving procedures such as osteotomy or the use of custom-made implants. He incorporates advanced 3D planning, modelling, and virtual surgery to support precision and improve outcomes in complex craniofacial cases.
He provides the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery, including tooth extractions (such as wisdom teeth), removal of lesions in or around the mouth, management of salivary stones, and other jaw- and face-related concerns. He regularly sees patients with facial pain, mouth ulcers, lichen planus, and other oral medicine conditions. He also treats children requiring tooth removal or exposure for orthodontic reasons, as well as those with tongue ties.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr O’Connor treats patients seeking procedures such as mole, cyst, wart and skin tag removal, scar revision, jaw cyst removal, and anti-wrinkle treatments. He also offers more advanced options such as chin and cheek implants, liposuction, blepharoplasty, and treatment for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).
Mr O’Connor was appointed as a consultant at Nottingham University Hospitals in January 2021 after completing his specialist training in the East Midlands. He undertook a nationally appointed TIG (Training Interface Group) Fellowship in Major Trauma between 2019 and 2020, followed by an AO International CranioMaxilloFacial Surgery Fellowship in Basel, Switzerland, in 2020.

Everything was made easy to understand, I felt listened to and my concerns were addressed. I felt very well looked after.
Removal of wisdom tooth procedure went well. Everything was explained in detail.
Mr O connor was very clear and concise with his explanation. Five star.
Follow up inspection after removal of two badly infected teeth under LA. I had not been able to eat for many weeks prior to extraction and had become anaemic. Unable to find NHS dentist for help as I medically needed to have extraction in hospital. Operation brilliantly performed.
I had a wisdom tooth removed by Dr O’Connor and I cannot fault my experience. Clearly explained everything from start to finish. He discussed the different options with me and any risks. The procedure itself was difficult but he remained calm throughout which made it much easier for me. I would 100% recommend him for this procedure.
Dr Rory O’Connor very kindly took the time to explain what injury I had experienced and the care to date. He was kind and empathetic and answered all questions clearly. He also gave us the names of further trusted healthcare professionals we could consult for ongoing treatment needs. In short, this consultation significantly reduced my level of anxiety surrounding the injury and management and has given me agency to return to normal life!
Mr O’Connor made me feel at ease from the start. He listened, respected my preferences regarding the surgery, and explained everything clearly. When I experienced a complication during recovery, he acted quickly and ensured I was seen and treated as soon as possible. I appreciated his professionalism, kindness and prompt support throughout my care.
Rory is a competent and approachable colleague with whom I work jointly and regularly. He is a skilled facial trauma surgeon and is the only maxillofacial surgeon in the UK to additionally manage major general trauma. His skills lie in facial trauma and reconstruction of secondary traumatic deformity, dentoalveolar work (wisdom teeth, cysts and complex extractions) and primary facial deformity. A skilled colleague who I would be happy to have treat me.
