Dr. Raka Maitra

Dr Raka Maitra is an accomplished Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a highly specialised background in clinical neuroscience and neuroimaging. She brings extensive clinical expertise to the assessment and treatment of complex neurodevelopmental and psychiatric conditions. Her distinguished international research background includes holding a prestigious Marie Curie Fellowship in Neuroimaging within The EU Twins Study in Schizophrenia, as well as obtaining her MD (Res) in Psychiatry from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany. Furthermore, she was a visiting researcher at the Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health in Melbourne, Australia.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Maitra is deeply embedded in the academic sphere. She serves as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London, where she teaches medical students on the Child Psychiatry curriculum and lectures on the BSc Neurosciences and Mental Health programme. Her ongoing research focuses heavily on structural phenotypes of adolescents with psychotic-like experiences.

Throughout her career, Dr Maitra has been a strong advocate for medical education, her peers, and the wider psychiatric community. Her exceptional contributions were formally recognised in 2021 when she was nominated by the Women and Mental Health Special Interest Group at the Royal College of Psychiatrists as one of the featured clinicians in the landmark '25 Women In Psychiatry' project, which celebrates the inspirational stories of outstanding female psychiatrists. In addition, she received the 2020 British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (BAPIO) award for her dedication to supporting junior international doctors stranded during the COVID-19 pandemic.
