Mr Rajkumar Thangaraj

Mr Rajkumar Thangaraj is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in lower limb joint reconstruction, major trauma, and complex hip and knee conditions. He is dedicated to helping patients restore their mobility, alleviate chronic joint pain, and return to an active lifestyle. Known for his compassionate and reassuring approach, Mr Thangaraj prioritises individualised patient care, offering comprehensive clinical evaluations and tailored management strategies that range from conservative therapies to modern surgical interventions.

His clinical practice focuses on primary and secondary osteoarthritis of the hip and knee, primary hip replacement, complex primary knee replacement, and robotic-assisted knee surgery. Mr Thangaraj also possesses extensive expertise in managing complex surgical challenges, including knee replacement instability, periprosthetic fractures, infected joint replacements, and revision knee arthroplasty. By incorporating cutting-edge biomechanical principles and modern surgical techniques, he strives to achieve optimal joint function and long-term surgical success for every patient.

Mr Thangaraj graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Madurai Medical College in 2000, before completing a Diploma in Orthopaedics at Stanley Medical College in 2004. He subsequently completed higher orthopaedic training in the United Kingdom, earning his Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2007. He further enhanced his technical knowledge by completing a Master of Science (MSc) in Orthopaedic Engineering at Cardiff University in 2012, followed by obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics, FRCS (Tr&Orth), from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2015. He holds active professional memberships with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, AO Trauma, and the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology (SICOT), where he serves on the Knee Arthroplasty Subspecialty Committee and the Research Awards Committee.

Beyond his clinical duties, Mr Thangaraj is deeply committed to medical education, clinical governance, and professional mentorship. He serves as an Educational and Clinical Supervisor and NHS Appraiser, whilst actively convening specialised instructional courses for orthopaedic trainees and fellow surgeons. Through continuous involvement in orthopaedic research and surgical instruction, Mr Thangaraj ensures his patients receive high-quality, evidence-based care.
