Mr Raj Sahemey is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee problems, including arthritis, joint replacement and complex “re-do” (revision) surgery. He has particular expertise in treating failed or problematic hip and knee replacements, including cases involving infection, fractures and bone loss, and is committed to helping patients regain mobility, reduce pain and return to the activities that matter to them.
Mr Sahemey qualified with Distinction from Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2013. He went on to complete highly competitive specialist orthopaedic training in the West Midlands, gaining extensive experience in both routine and complex hip and knee surgery. Alongside his clinical practice, he is actively involved in research, regularly publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting his work at national and international conferences.
He looks after a comprehensive range of patients, from those with early arthritis through to people with advanced or long-standing joint disease. For early arthritis, he often recommends less invasive treatments such as joint injections or keyhole (arthroscopic) surgery to help manage symptoms and delay the need for joint replacement. For patients with confirmed, symptomatic arthritis, he offers hip and knee replacement surgery tailored to their individual needs. He also frequently manages complex cases where patients have difficult anatomy or severe bone loss, using specialised implants or custom-made prostheses to achieve the best possible outcome.
A significant part of his practice is devoted to revision (re-do) surgery for failed or problematic joint replacements, including wear and loosening of implants, dislocations, fractures around the implant and infections. Many of these patients have been struggling for some time, and are referred to him because of his experience in dealing with challenging cases and providing clear, honest guidance about the options available.
Patients often describe Mr Sahemey as holistic in his approach, treating the person rather than just the joint. He is known as a good listener who takes time to understand each patient’s goals and concerns, and is open and honest when discussing the potential benefits and risks of different treatments. His patients value his knowledge, calm manner and the way he supports them through complex and sometimes difficult decision-making with care and compassion.

Received the appointment quite quickly after referral. During appointment felt listened to. Mr Sahemey was thorough, x-ray was informative but lacking detail so a scan was organised within 2 weeks. A telephone appointment followed - approx 6 weeks. Mr Sahemey was polite and professional and went through scan findings in detail. He outlined 2 options for treatment- giving more information about each. We both considered the intensive physiotherapy the best option. He said I should hear from them next week and kept my referral open should there be further incidents in the mean time.

Thank you for your kind feedback. I’m very pleased to hear that you had a positive experience.
Mr Raj Sahemey is extremely professional with a friendly manner. He has completed a complete knee replacement and then manipulation. He is a kind and genuine Doctor and highly recommended.

I’m very grateful for your comments and happy to hear that you had a reassuring and positive experience.
I am so glad that I got Mr Sahemey as my Surgeon at both Solihull and Good Hope Hospital. He clearly explained the procedure, risks and the thought process behind the choice of prosthesis. Unfortunately, after the second joint replacement, I developed an infection. Mr Sahemey and his team had me seen within 2 days and constantly checked in and supported me until It had healed with the agreed antibiotics. I could not have had a better experience throughout these surgeries and it has renewed my trust in medical professionals.

I really appreciate you taking the time to leave such kind feedback. I’m glad you felt well looked after.
At every appointment/interaction I have been impressed with Mr Sahemey. He has shown a level of care and attention that I have not experienced previously and I have seen many consultants over the years. I required a right hip revision and was experiencing huge discomfort. Mr Sahemey recognised this and took the time to listen to my lived experience. He was meticulous in his planning and preparation for my revision and this included testing for infection, learning from my previous operations and putting in place a treatment plan to support a speedy recovery. Mr Sahemey has been respectful, open and honest with me in our face to face conversations and his written communication has been responsive, timely and straightforward. In short I cannot recommend Mr Sahemey highly enough; his care and skilful intervention has quite simply changed my life.

I’m delighted to hear that you felt supported and that your experience met your expectations. Thank you for sharing your feedback.
