The realisation that chronic pain requires a different approach to treatment compared to acute pain was one of the main advances in pain management during the latter part of the 20th century. New medicines and therapeutic approaches based on that knowledge are now transforming the lives of patients.
As a rheumatologist with a specialist interest in chronic musculoskeletal pain I am able to assist patients with symptoms arising from spinal disorders, inflammatory arthritis and soft tissue disorders. I also see individuals suffering from less well defined disorders including fibromyalgia and work related upper limb disorders.
Chronic pain often is associated with anxiety and uncertainty about the future such that a holistic approach to treatment taking into account the factors unique to the individual produces the most effective outcomes. I place strong emphasis on education and helping people to help themselves.
I am a consultant rheumatologist and also professor of clinical rheumatology at Barts & The London School of Medicine & Dentistry. I am recognised for my research into pain mechanisms in the rheumatic diseases, as well as the early diagnosis and management of inflammatory spinal disorders. I have a lifelong interest in medical education for doctors, allied health professionals as well as members of the public.

Professor Bruce Kidd is kind, thorough, and clear in his interactions with patients. He puts patients at ease and makes them feel heard. He gives detailed information regarding diagnoses and treatment plans. Many patients seek his care for Rheumatology, arthritis, and joint pain.
Professor Kidd. Was very professional. He spent time understanding. The issue but also looking at the bigger picture to see if there was a number of issues that was causing the problem. And spent the time explaining. Came over very friendly. If you did not understand, he would spend time explaining or. Talking about the issues so you fully understood where you where you were and.
I went with my then 18 year old son to see Prof Kidd about a hand injury that wasn't healing after some time. Upon meeting Prof Kidd he was immediately attentive and curious not only about the injury but about my son also. There was a concern at the time that the injury could be linked to Rheumatoid arthritis which was very worrying for both myself and of course my son being the age he was. After extensive exploration and consulting with experts in the field we received confirmation that it wasn't Rheumatoid arthritis which was a great relief to us both. I was truly so grateful for the caring nature Prof Kidd exhibited from our initial meeting with him. I had taken my son to another consultant over the past year whose nature was appalling and upset both me and my son. This was shared with Prof Kidd and I felt his response genuine that we were so disappointed by this encounter. Can't say enough good things about Prof Kidd. Feel privileged to have met him and my son be a recipient of his skilled knowledge.
I had the pleasure of meeting Professor Bruce Kidd in 2021 as a new patient. I have now seen the professor again in August for a different problem and the experience on the many appointments in 2021 and now has not changed one iota. He is very professional in his job he explains what you are dealing with but also he does it with a very warm and caring way and makes you feel that he is there to help and treat your condition. He has empathy with his patients which my husband and myself saw firsthand in 2021 and still in 2026. I would always go back to him for consultation/treatment. A very nice guy.
Prof Kidd is exceptionally friendly and professional. I always felt completely comfortable and well cared for. Many thanks!
Professor Kidd was excellent at treating my condition, which has since improved. I am so grateful for his guidance and support during an extremely difficult time since my diagnosis. He is very patient and thorough. He possesses great bedside manner, and I highly recommend him.
I've seen Professor Bruce for recurrent miscarriage. While the test results are all good news for me, the professor was kind enough to listen to me, conduct all the necessary investigations, and explain them very well. Most importantly, I could see he cares about his patients.
Prof Kidd is kind, clear and understanding. He has been very proactive in helping me get a diagnosis after several years of undiagnosed pain, and has explained next steps for treatment and recovery very well. I'm glad he is my doctor and find him very encouraging.
I came to my appointment feeling anxious and stressed, having seen so many different specialists telling me different things in the past few months. Professor Kidd immediately made me feel at ease, taking the time to talk through my medical history and the tests I’ve had done, other doctors I’ve seen. He helped me understand the connections between them all and was very clear on his diagnosis. I really can’t recommend Prof Kidd enough, I left the appointment feeling much happier and more confident in my ability to manage my health issues!
