About Mr Prashant Patel

Mr Prashant Patel is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, with over three decades of medical experience specialising in urology, hernia surgery and cancer treatment.

He graduated in medicine in 1993 in India, completing specialist training in General Surgery with a focus on pelvic surgery before moving to the UK in 1999. In 2010, Mr Patel undertook a prestigious fellowship in urological cancer surgery in Perth, Australia, where he gained advanced expertise in laparoscopic and robotic techniques.

Alongside his surgical practice at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, he plays a leading academic role, lecturing at the University of Birmingham, supervising postgraduate students, and contributing to national trainee selection and FRCS (Urology) examinations. Internationally recognised, he has served as a panel chair at European Urology meetings and sits on scientific review committees.

An active researcher with over 100 peer-reviewed publications, he leads multiple clinical trials, focusing on molecular markers, immunotherapy, and informatics in urological cancers.

Outside of medicine Mr Patel enjoys cycling, meditating and hiking, which has lead to him summiting several high altitude mountain peaks in Europe, Russia, Africa, South America, Nepal and India.
