Mrs Patel Gordon-Bennett

Mrs Patel Gordon-Bennett is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon, currently seeing patients at Clarity Healthcare in Worthing and London, and LaserVision Prema Porstmouth. Her areas of expertise include the diagnosis and surgical treatment of a wide range of retinal and general eye conditions, such as cataracts, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment, vitreous floaters, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. She also regularly performs intravitreal injections and laser treatments for retinal and macular disease.

From 2015 to 2023, Mrs Gordon-Bennett held a substantive NHS Consultant position at St Richard’s, Worthing, and Southlands Hospitals under University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, she was Clinical Lead for the West Sussex Diabetic Eye Screening Programme and served as the Clinical Laser Expert. She also contributed to neonatal care by conducting screening for Retinopathy of Prematurity in premature infants. Her commitment to clinical excellence extends to education and training, where she has actively supported the development of allied health professionals and junior doctors.

Mrs Gordon-Bennett received her medical degree from the University of the West Indies, Mona, Jamaica, graduating with an MBBS in 1997. She undertook her specialist ophthalmology training in the Eastern Deanery (Cambridgeshire and Essex) in the UK, completing this in 2013 when she became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. She then went on to complete two Vitreoretinal Fellowships, one at the Birmingham Midland Eye Centre and the other at Leicester Royal Infirmary, between 2013 and 2015. Her broad clinical background also includes experience working in several hospitals across the UK and in Jamaica, contributing to her well-rounded and culturally informed approach to care.

With a strong interest in research, Mrs Gordon-Bennett has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals on topics such as macular hole, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy, central serous chorioretinopathy, glaucoma, and endophthalmitis. She has been involved in clinical trials and observational studies, contributing valuable insights into the development and refinement of retinal treatment techniques.

Mrs Gordon-Bennett is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and holds memberships with the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the British Medical Association. Her practice is supported by a patient-focused philosophy rooted in compassion, communication, and clinical precision. She is known for her ability to explain complex conditions in a way that is accessible and reassuring, helping patients feel confident in their care.
