Professor Palak Trivedi

Professor Palak Trivedi is a Consultant Hepatologist and Professor of Cholestatic and Immune-Mediated Liver Disease based in Birmingham, practising at the Priory Hospital and Harborne Hospital. He graduated from St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London, in 2005 and completed his foundation training in the Kent, Surrey, and Sussex deanery. Professor Trivedi then undertook specialty training in internal medicine and gastroenterology within the Oxford Deanery. He commenced doctoral research in 2011 at the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), Birmingham, focusing on the role of gut inflammation in autoimmune liver diseases.

His research on primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) has won multiple awards, and he now leads over 25 clinical trials, including studies investigating the gut microbiome’s impact on liver disease. Professor Trivedi serves as Chief Investigator for the UK-PSC consortium and holds leadership roles in national and international liver disease groups. He has published extensively, with over 90 articles.

Clinically, Professor Trivedi is an accredited gastrointestinal endoscopist with expertise in variceal surveillance and treatment. He is heavily involved in medical education at the University of Birmingham, leading gastroenterology and hepatology teaching modules and examining PhD candidates. His clinical interests include abnormal liver function, viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, liver biopsy, and upper GI endoscopy.
