Mr Osman Riaz

Mr. Osman Riaz is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Sports Knee Surgeon with specialised expertise in sports and soft tissue knee surgery. His extensive work with professional athletes has given him deep insight into the unique needs and high demands placed on the knees of both athletes and active individuals. He is skilled in performing a variety of arthroscopic (keyhole) surgeries, including ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair, cartilage repair and regeneration, kneecap stabilisation, lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET), and complex multi-ligament reconstruction. Mr. Riaz also treats young adult arthritis through re-alignment osteotomy and performs knee replacement surgeries for older patients.

As both a passionate footballer and a surgeon, Mr. Riaz understands the importance of returning to sports after an injury, which drives his dedication to delivering patient-centric care. His treatments focus not just on pain relief but also on helping patients regain the ability to engage in their preferred recreational and sporting activities.

Mr. Riaz has held a consultant position at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, where he established and leads the soft tissue and sports knee service. He chairs a weekly multidisciplinary meeting involving advanced physiotherapy practitioners and fellow knee surgeons, ensuring comprehensive care for his patients. His commitment to medical education is reflected in his role as the lead for junior doctors in the orthopaedic and trauma surgery department.

In addition to his clinical expertise, Mr. Riaz is a dedicated researcher with over 20 peer-reviewed publications and more than 30 international presentations. He oversees multiple clinical research projects, including studies comparing quadriceps tendon grafts and hamstring grafts for ACL reconstruction. His work also focuses on utilising technological advancements, such as 3D-printed technology, to improve accuracy in osteotomy surgery.

Mr. Riaz is the principal investigator for the national REPPORT trial, which investigates surgical versus personalised knee therapy for knee instability. His passion for evidence-based medicine and innovative care is evident in every aspect of his practice, helping his patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
