Mr Paul Parker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee, Foot and Ankle Surgeon, and a senior Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon in the British Army.
Mr Parker specialises in lower limb sports injuries, and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. Having served on over 17 operational tours, he has an excellent understanding of the needs of the 'soldier athlete' and routinely treats military personnel from all over the UK and overseas. His experience as a high-level military doctor has given him invaluable transferable skills that he brings to both his busy NHS practice at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (the UK's largest level 1 trauma centre), and to his private practice at Circle Health Group and HCA Healthcare UK.
Mr Parker qualified in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast in 1985. After overseas military service in Central America and Germany, he trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in London, Edinburgh and the US, and became a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1998. He worked as a consultant at South Tees Hospitals in North East England until 2012 when his military career took him to Birmingham, now a weekly commute from his home in North Yorkshire.
Mr Parker holds private clinics at Circle Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, County Durham (age 16+), The Priory Hospital in Birmingham (age 18+), and HCA Healthcare UK The Harborne Hospital in Birmingham (age 18+), where he and his team can provide a comprehensive assessment in the diagnosis and management of injuries of the knee, foot and ankle.
In 2012 Mr Parker chose to concentrate on lower limb sports medicine, and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. He treats a wide range of sports injuries from a high-level athlete with a knee or ankle ligament injury, to someone who enjoys running or walking in their free time and is suffering with shin splints. Having previously performed lower limb joint replacement surgery for over 14 years, Mr Parker is keen to use modern joint preservation techniques to prolong the life of the knee and ankle, avoiding joint replacement surgery.
Mr Parker has extensive experience of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and revision ACL surgery, a highly specialised operation, and carries them out routinely both in the NHS and the private sector. He is also one of the few consultant orthopaedic surgeons in the UK known for regularly carrying out ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction. Ankle arthroscopy is not performed in many hospitals, however, the particular requirements and specific injury patterns of military personnel mean that Mr Parker has extensive experience of these procedures.
His specialist interests also include the more general wear and tear problems with the knee, foot, ankle and toes, such as knee or ankle instability, and he is known nationally for his investigation and successful treatment of plantar fasciitis.
Mr Parker prides himself in providing a bespoke service which is centered around the individual needs of the patient.

My Physiotherapist recommended Mr Parker to me following my Achilles tendon rupture injury in order to get the best advice regarding treatment. Mr Parker gave a clear explanation of the diagnosis, treatment options and what I should expect in terms of recovery. This complimented my physiotherapy well and has aided recovery. He is approachable and makes sure to answer any questions you have. I’d highly recommend for anyone with similar injuries.
From the initial consultation through to the day of surgery, everything was handled with clarity and care. The surgeon took the time to explain the procedure in detail, outlining both the benefits and the recovery process, which helped me feel informed and confident in my decision.
The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. I must admit I’m 60 years old too much weight so the thought of an operation was worrying to say the least. But from Mr Parker, nursing staff, theatre staff and everybody else involved really do put your mind at ease. They all make a bad 6 months seem somewhat enjoyable.

Dr Parker performed a 5th metatarsal repair on my left foot, this was after I previously fractured it twice while trying to let it heal on its own. The service provide by Dr Parker was excellent from start to finish and I can say my foot is now as good as new if not better than new. I am a very active individual as I do a lot of running and other sports and also work on my feet. For me personally the surgery was a life saver as I thought this bone would never heal. I would recommend Dr Parker’s services to anyone. The staff and Dr Parker made me feel comfortable before surgery and the process was very smooth. Thank you.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Good to hear that you were happy with your treatment 😊
The care I received from Colonel Parker was exceptional. I had a reconstruction of my ACL mid April 2024, following a ski accident in the February. After 8 months I was back on my skis and after just over 9, I was skiing hard again abroad, flying down the Matterhorn at 56mph, something I feared I would never be able to do again after my accident. The graft remained rock solid! I cannot thank him enough for this life changing treatment that has enabled me to return to my sporty lifestyle and passion for skiing as an advanced skier.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It is great that you have been able to get back to your skiing ⛷️
Very happy, from my initial consultation to my 6 week post surgery review everything was extremely straightforward. Colonel Parker was friendly and professional, and made sure any questions I had were fully answered. The waiting time for my surgery was short, the latest procedure type was used and my recovery was quick and easy. Despite being a relatively small injury, Colonel Parker gave me reassurance it was just as valid and important to him to fix.

Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear that your surgery went well and you were happy with the outcome 👍🏻
