Mr Paul Parker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee, Foot and Ankle Surgeon, and the British Army's most senior Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Mr Parker specialises in lower limb sports injuries, and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. Having served on over 17 operational tours, he has an excellent understanding of the needs of the 'soldier athlete' and routinely treats military personnel from all over the UK and overseas. His experience as a high-level military doctor has given him invaluable transferable skills that he brings to both his busy NHS practice at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (the UK's largest level 1 trauma centre), and to his private practice at Circle Health Group.
Mr Parker qualified in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast in 1985. After overseas military service in Central America and Germany, he trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in London, Edinburgh and the US, and became a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1998. He worked as a consultant at South Tees Hospitals in North East England until 2012 when his military career took him to Birmingham, now a weekly commute from his home in North Yorkshire.
Mr Parker holds private clinics at both the Woodlands Hospital in Darlington, County Durham (age 16+), and The Priory Hospital in Birmingham (age 18+), where he and his team can provide a comprehensive assessment in the diagnosis and management of injuries of the knee, foot and ankle.
In 2012 Mr Parker chose to concentrate on lower limb sports medicine, and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. He treats a wide range of sports injuries from a high-level athlete with a knee or ankle ligament injury, to someone who enjoys running or walking in their free time and is suffering with shin splints. Having previously performed lower limb joint replacement surgery for over 14 years, Mr Parker is keen to use modern joint preservation techniques to prolong the life of the knee and ankle, avoiding joint replacement surgery.
Mr Parker has extensive experience of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and revision ACL surgery, a highly specialised operation, and carries them out routinely both in the NHS and the private sector. He is also one of the few consultant orthopaedic surgeons in the UK known for regularly carrying out ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction. Ankle arthroscopy is not performed in many hospitals, however, the particular requirements and specific injury patterns of military personnel mean that Mr Parker has extensive experience of these procedures.
His specialist interests also include the more general wear and tear problems with the knee, foot, ankle and toes, such as knee or ankle instability, and bunions; and he known nationally for his investigation and successful treatment of plantar fasciitis.
Mr Parker prides himself in providing a bespoke service which is centered around the individual needs of the patient.

Easy to talk to, straightforward and to the point - but always happy to go into more detail. It's apparent just how much he cares about doing the best job possible for his patients. I don't feel like I ever had a long conversation with Mr Parker, but I can't think of a time I left feeling like I'd missed out on anything.

After reading Col Parker’s profile I felt so lucky that he was carrying out my operation. He was very professional with a lovely manner. He explained everything very well. Post operation was very successful and pain free. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him 😊
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It’s really great to hear that you’ve had such a good experience and most importantly, that you are pain free 😊

Mr Parker has been very patient with me. Although I'm not pain free I'm hopeful that it won't get worse. He has given me good advice and encouragement to swim which I have finally taken and is making a difference to my health and well being.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear that you’ve started to swim 👍🏻

I found Paul to be very easy to speak to regarding my injury. I went armed with research and information so I could ask the right questions, and understand the answers he gave me. All throughout my initial consultations, physio-prehab, pre & post-operation, and follow up after recovery and physio - Paul has been fantastic. Having never had a surgical procedure before, Paul allayed any worries or fears I might have had, and I'm very much in a better condition now, if not better than even before my injury. Thanks Paul.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. It’s great to hear that you’ve felt so happy with your experience throughout 😊

I'm so glad I used Mr Parker to do my surgery, he explained my issue with knee, told me how the surgery would go, the possible complications and also the long term benefits and I'm happy too say after 6 months I'm back up and running again. To say I'm happy is an understatement!! Thank you so much!

Colonel Parker was really polite and easy to understand, he quickly assessed my situation, and he explained the course of action and its urgency. His team arranged for my surgery to be undertaken ASAP in addition to Colonel Parker’s already full schedule. I am well on the way to recover which is testament to his skills as a Surgeon. I am very happy with the outcome and would Highly recommend him. Thank you!!

Colonel Parker is reassuringly quick and self-assured. He didn’t waste time on bedside manners but that was fine with me. I did have to wait around 5 hours for a 7 minute operation, which slightly marred the private patient experience.
Many thanks for taking the time to leave a review. So sorry to hear that you had a long wait on the day of your surgery. Unfortunately this is out of Mr Parker’s control and is often dependant on where you are on the theatre list. The hospital would ensure that you were admitted within plenty of time of your procedure in case of any issues beforehand.
