Professor William Hellier is a Consultant ENT Surgeon in Southampton and Winchester Hospitals , and Honorary Professor of Otology ( Ear Disorders and Surgery) at the University of Southampton.

Professor Hellier graduated MB ChB in 1990, became a Fellow of the Royal College of surgeons in 1998, before completing postgraduate training in London at leading centres including the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital and St George’s Hospital. He further developed his expertise in Ear Disorders during an Otology Fellowship at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital in Melbourne, as well as fellowships at the Portmann Ear Institute in Bordeaux and the House Ear Clinic in Los Angeles.
Appointed ENT Consultant Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital in 2001 and later at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, Professor Hellier manages a broad spectrum of ear, nose and throat conditions, with particular expertise in ear disorders such as hearing and balance problems, tinnitus, chronic ear disease, and cholesteatoma. He performs advanced ear surgeries, including mastoid procedures and surgery for otosclerosis, and has a strong interest in children’s ENT care, undertaking procedures such as grommets, adenoid and tonsil surgery, and airway interventions. He also works at the Southampton University Auditory Implant Centre, performing Cochlear Implants, Bone Anchored Hearing Aids, and other Hearing Implants
Professor Hellier has served as Treasurer and a Trustee of ENTUK, as Treasurer and on the Council of the British Association of Paediatric Otolaryngology he is currently a Member of the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, and also on the Council of the British Society of Otology. He is also the NHS England Advisor for ENT for South East England
Alongside clinical practice, Professor Hellier remains active in research and education. He has published numerous papers in scientific Journals, has lectured at and taught on a number of National and International Conferences and Courses. He is the author of Essential ENT, an award-winning textbook published worldwide.
