Mr Shyam Kumar

Mr Kumar is a highly skilled consultant orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in the treatment of upper limb conditions. Since 2011 he has been based at the Royal Lancaster infirmary and has extensive experience in treating patients with degenerative conditions, sports injuries and trauma to the shoulder and elbow. He also takes part in the trauma on call rota at the Royal Lancaster infirmary and is a recognised trainer of junior doctors.

As a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Mr Kumar is an expert in keyhole surgery and uses minimally invasive techniques to ensure safety and comfortable recovery. Patients can expect a thorough examination and treatment when under his care.

In addition to this clinical work, Mr Kumar also has extensive experience in various academic and governance roles. He has co-authored more than 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to various presentations and case reports. During his training he has had research experience in the University of Leicester.

He serves as a representative of the Royal College of surgeons on the appointment panels to recruit consultants in various NHS organisations, as well as an examiner for the Royal College of surgeons. He has been a member of the medicolegal committee of the British Orthopaedic Association since 2019 and he is a fellow of the Royal College of surgeons of both England and Edinburgh.

More recently, Mr Kumar has been selected as a Surgical Specialty Board Member in Trauma & Orthopaedics by the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and also as the Regional Professional Advisor for the Northwest region by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He also serves as a performance assessor for the General Medical Council and practitioner performance advice (PPA.) He holds an LLM in Medical law and ethics from de Montfort University, Leicester.
