Mr Sanjay Mulay

Mr Sanjay Mulay is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery, with particular expertise in joint replacement and revision procedures. He has been practising orthopaedic surgery for more than 20 years and has worked in the UK since 1998, serving as a consultant since 2007.

Mr Mulay has a specialist interest in hip and knee replacements, especially in younger and more active patients requiring advanced joint preservation and reconstruction strategies. His practice includes primary hip and knee replacement surgery, revision hip and knee replacement procedures, uni-compartmental knee replacement, patellofemoral joint replacement, arthroscopic knee surgery, and forefoot surgery. He performs more than 200 lower limb joint replacements annually.

He completed his orthopaedic training in Liverpool before undertaking subspecialty arthroplasty fellowship training in Leicester and senior orthopaedic training at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital. He was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in 2007, where he has played a key role in developing enhanced recovery programmes designed to improve patient rehabilitation and shorten hospital stays following orthopaedic surgery.

Mr Mulay is recognised as one of the leading hip and knee surgeons in the Midlands and is ranked within the top 5% of surgeons in the National Joint Registry for surgical outcomes, maintaining exceptionally low infection, revision, and mortality rates. In addition to his clinical practice, he is actively involved in teaching and training. He serves as a Clinical Tutor responsible for the education and supervision of junior doctors within his NHS trust and currently holds a leadership role as clinical lead within the orthopaedic department.

Alongside his surgical work, Mr Mulay has contributed to orthopaedic research and education through presentations at national and international meetings and publications in peer-reviewed international journals.
