Mr Saanan Umeed

Dr Saanan Umeed is a highly skilled and accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist at Midland Eye with a wealth of experience in the field of eye care. He is known for his expertise in the treatment of various eye conditions, with a particular focus on macular disease, retinal vascular and diabetic disease, as well as cataract surgery. Dr Umeed's journey in ophthalmology began with his qualification in Pakistan in 1993. Afterward, he pursued post-graduate training in ophthalmology in Pakistan for four years before further enhancing his skills at the Dudley Group NHS Trust in the UK for an additional three years. These formative years of training equipped him with a solid foundation in general ophthalmology and prepared him for more specialised areas of eye care.

In 2005, Dr Umeed embarked on a new professional venture as an Associate Specialist in General Ophthalmology at Cymtaff NHS Trust in South Wales, where he continued to refine his clinical skills and gain valuable experience in managing a diverse range of eye conditions. In 2010, Dr Umeed undertook a fellowship in Medical Retina at Bristol Eye Hospital. After completing his fellowship, Dr Umeed began practicing as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales from 2011 to 2014. During his time there, he made significant contributions to the eye care services provided to the community, earning the trust and respect of his peers and patients alike.

In 2015, Dr Umeed assumed the role of a Consultant Ophthalmologist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, where he works at both Heartlands Hospital and Solihull Hospital. His appointment in such esteemed institutions reflects his exceptional skills and dedication to providing outstanding patient care.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr Umeed actively participates in medical education, sharing his knowledge and expertise with the next generation of eye care professionals. He is widely regarded as an excellent mentor, and his contributions to the field extend beyond his clinical practice.
