About Dr Richard Sarsam
Dr Richard Sarsam is a Consultant Gastroenterologist practising at Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. His training in gastroenterology and endoscopy training was based in both the South and North Thames Deanery including an 18-month period in the Royal Free Liver Unit. Additionaly, he spent two years in research on the role of bacteria in gallstones and colon cancer at Guy's Hospital.
Dr Sarsam has expertise in all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP. He is performing around 1800 endoscopic procedures annually. Furthermore, he is also an accredited screening colonoscopist for the bowel cancer screening programme.
Dr Sarsam is responsible for introducing two new diagnostic procedures to some of the hospitals where he is working. This includes the capsule endoscopy of the small intestine (which is the gold standard method of imaging the small bowel) and the bravo capsule insertion during endoscopy for 48-hour pH monitoring (which is very useful in patients with dyspepsia and reflux disease).
