Dr. Rajiv Chandy

Dr Rajiv Chandy is a highly experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist based in Cheshire at Spire Cheshire Hospital. He completed his medical degree at the University of Kerala, India in 1988 followed by his MD in General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology in 1991. He later relocated to the UK and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993. He was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at St Helens and Knowsley NHS Trust in 2000 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2007.

Dr Chandy has carried out significant responsibilities throughout his career , serving as the lead clinician for inflammatory bowel disease at his NHS base for an extended period. At present, he holds the positions of lead clinician for GI research and lead for hepatobiliary endoscopy.

At Spire Cheshire Hospital, Dr Chandy sees patients with irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, acid reflux and abdominal pain. He has specialist expertise in endoscopic procedures including gastroscopy, colonoscopy and ERCP.

A dedicated advocate of GI research, Dr Chandy is at the forefront of numerous commercial gastrointestinal trials, boasting the largest portfolio in the northern region of England. His influence resonates internationally as he has been invited to speak at prestigious conferences. In 2020, Dr Chandy led the Whiston research team to excellence , securing the National Institute for Health and Care Research's award for best commercial research team in the North West coast. His contributions extend beyond clinical work as he serves as a reviewer for the British Medical Journal and has authored several academic papers.
