About Mr Phillip Edge
Mr Phillip Edge has over 25 years experience as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon within the NHS where his expertise was recognised by his peers and registrar trainees, as well as by the NHS in rewarding him with 7 Clinical Excellence Awards.
He now works solely within the private sector. Mr Edge regularly performs surgery in both upper and lower limb including hip and knee replacements and knee arthroscopy. He also has extensive experience in treating hand and foot problems such as carpal tunnel release, bunions, tennis elbow, to mention a few. He practices privately at the BMI Manor Hospital (Biddenham), Bridges Clinic (Bedford Hospital) and the Harley Street Clinic (Great Denham, Bedford).
Mr Edge regularly meets with Orthopaedic colleagues from other NHS Trusts in order to widen his exposure to other schools of thought and practice. He is an excellent communicator and excels in passing on his knowledge to colleagues both practically and in theory. He has been nominated as Trainer of the year in East Anglia and runs several well recognised national courses for Advanced Physiotherapists. His communication skill with regards to his patients is equally good. He believes in explaining things clearly, using appropriate language, explaining all treatment options (both surgical and non-surgical), and recommending a personalised course of action which will provide the best outcome for each patient.
Phillip qualified in medicine in 1984, Cape Town, South Africa, where he also undertook and completed his specialist orthopaedic training in 1996 at the highly renowned Groote Schuur Hospital. He was then appointed as an Orthopaedic and Trauma Consultant at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, and in 2000 moved to Bedford Hospital.
Mr. Edge is more than willing to see patients with a range of orthopaedic issues, and holds clinics along side his excellent team to provide first class service.

Mr Edge was patient, very professional and gave clear advice and information. He is very approachable and friendly. He is definitely my number one when it comes to my knees as I was in a lot of pain and did not get any help from NHS he took the time to listen and made me feel valued and not just a number.
