Mr Paul Magill is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with nearly a decade of experience in hip replacement surgery and knee replacement surgery. He sees private patients in Newry and Belfast.
Mr Magill earned his primary medical qualification at Trinity College Dublin, after which he was placed on the highly competitive Irish Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgical training programme. He then gained a fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons, during which time, he gained crucial knowledge and expertise in hip replacement surgery and also knee replacement surgery. He had the opportunity to learn from experts in the field, such as the renowned Professor Beverland.
Mr Magill spent his last year of training in New Zealand, where he gained experience in computer-navigated surgery and revision surgery. Upon completion, he was appointed Consultant in 2018. Since his appointment, Mr Magill has become the first in Northern Ireland to undertake and introduce day-care hip replacement surgery. He is also a keen advocate for the improvement of clinical outcomes, evidenced by his Master's degree in Surgery. Mr Magill is also a regular publisher in clinical journals and is frequently invited to speak at orthopaedic conferences.

Mr Magill recently did my hip replacement. From first appointment right through to post op appointment I had a excellent experience. Mr Magill explains everything and nothing is a problem to him. I would highly recommend.

During my initial consultation, Mr Magill took time to carefully explain my condition, drawing a diagram to ensure I fully understood my situation. This was incredibly helpful as it was important to have answers and to feel like the consultant wanted me to understand not just ‘what’ had happened, but more significantly, ‘why’ it had happened. I felt confident that he was the right consultant for the procedure and this was further reaffirmed when I returned for the operation. Mr Magill was incredibly thorough and careful prior to the procedure, again indicating that my overall well-being was paramount and the procedure would only happen if it could be done safely. When I went into theatre, again it was his calm, reassuring approach that made me feel completely safe in his hands and were I ever to need any knee surgery or to have my other hip replaced, I would endeavour to have Mr Magill as my consultant before I’d even consider anyone else. Post surgery, Mr Magill again checked in with me to ask how I was feeling and again there was a sense of calm reassurance that is so important after surgery. I am incredibly grateful to have had this procedure with him as the consultant.
