Professor Patrick Kennedy

Professor Patrick Kennedy is a leading Consultant Physician and Hepatologist, internationally recognised for his expertise in viral liver disease, particularly hepatitis B and hepatitis delta.

He trained at University College Dublin before completing postgraduate training in London, and was appointed Senior Lecturer at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry in 2009. His academic work has helped redefine disease phases in chronic hepatitis B and has focused on developing more personalised approaches to treatment. He is widely published, with more than 200 publications, over 100 peer-reviewed articles and more than 10,000 citations.

Professor Kennedy has a particular interest in the management of fatty liver disease, liver cirrhosis, viral hepatitis and liver disease in young people and in professional athletes. He works closely with Premiership football clubs and provides specialist care for elite sportspeople from the UK and internationally.

He has held several national and international advisory roles, including with the World Health Organization, EASL, NICE, UKAP, the British Viral Hepatitis Group and the Hepatitis B Foundation. He is also Chief/Principal Investigator for multiple clinical trials of novel treatments for hepatitis B and hepatitis delta.

Professor Kennedy is passionate about patient education and personalised care. He is the founder of Leaders in Liver Health, a specialist private clinic providing rapid, consultant-led assessment and management of liver conditions in a discreet and patient-focused Harley Street setting.
