My mum, Patricia Dennis, was referred to Mr Stevenson in late 2025 as an abscess had developed on her knee and an infection was suspected in her knee replacement. Mr Stevenson quickly but very clearly detailed the issue, the next steps and the urgency by which the infection in my mums knee needed to be dealt with. Despite the expected surgery that mum would need to go through (two more procedures) his explanation and reassurances were clear and welcome. Mum has since had one procedure to remove her replacement knee, remove the infection and insert an antibiotic spacer to ensure the infection would not return. All completed by Mr Stevenson which has all been brilliant. The latest consultation was to review the surgery and schedule the 2nd, to put a second knee replacement in for Mum. Pre-op has been arranged quickly and whilst understandably nervous of more surgery, both mum and I are very pleased that Mr Stevenson will be performing the procedure. He is a very nice man with a great bedside manner. He is interested in his patients experiences and doesn't only rely on a number, on a blood test result to determine how best to proceed, which given my mums experiences over the last few years is fantastic. I would say the Royal Orthopaedic were very fortunate to have him, I know mum and I have felt the same. Best Regards Chris D

I thought my treatment and the overall professionalism of both the office staff (Luan) and the consultant (Mr Stevenson) were excellent. I couldn’t rate my overall experience as anything other than first rate.

Enhancing surgical margins: A key to survival in pelvic chondrosarcoma

Enhancing surgical margins: A key to survival in pelvic chondrosarcoma

Pelvic chondrosarcoma, originating in the cartilaginous tissue of the pelvis, presents unique surgical challenges due to its proximity to critical neural and visceral structures. The results of this study have demonstrated an improvement in disease specific outcomes over time for patients undergoing surgical resection of pelvic chondrosarcomas. Whilst it is not possible to attribute this to any one intervention, this most likely reflects an accumulation of tangible and cognitive advances including the adoption of navigation and custom jigs, advances in imaging techniques, and a better understanding of the disease itself, especially an appreciation of margin status. Advances in how services coordinate care, including centralisation of service delivery, MDT coordination of care and decision making, and a global appreciation of the need to strive towards better outcomes, have all contributed to this improvement in DSS and LRFS, particularly in patients with non-dedifferentiated tumours. However, these improvements are starkly juxtaposed to the failure to see comparable improvements in patients treated for dedifferentiated chondrosarcoma of the pelvis where outcomes remain poor despite best efforts, and represent an unmet need for future research and innovation.
