Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon Mr James Allibone has a special interest in degenerative disease of the lumbar, thoracic, cervical spine and spinal tumours. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the conservative and surgical management of these conditions.

Prior to his current role, Mr Allibone was based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital where he was the lead spinal surgeon. In 2007, he moved to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), where he is the current Lead Spinal Surgeon.
Mr Allibone graduated from The London Hospital College in 1989 before undertaking general surgical training at St Bartholomew's Hospital. His neurosurgery training was completed at the NHNN.
He is a member of the National Clinical Reference Group for Spinal Services and the Lead Clinician of the Complex Spinal Group at the NHNN. He has also led the North London Metastatic Spinal Tumour Group and been part of the executive council of the British Association of Spinal Surgeons. Mr Allibone presents at both national and international conferences.

I have nothing but praise for Mr Allibone, kind, courteous and completely expert in his field.
I went on holiday to Malaysia for 3 weeks with what I thought was a pulled muscle. The pain did not subside and 2 MRI scans later it was proven to be 3 slipped discs in my neck. Returning to the UK |I was referred to a Spine Consultant who took one look at my scans and said "I cannot help, but I know a man who can, and he is the best." 2 days later I had my first of two appointments, he was very clear about what the problem was and how he would resolve it. Side effects like a sore throat were explained and also expected recovery times and follow up procedures. I have my utmost faith in this gentleman, he even remembered little details from our talks about my pleasure in singing in choirs and my wanting to get back onto the Badminton court again.
Mr Allibone is very straight talking, explains things and gets the job done. He also listens to the patient which is great. Mr Allibone is certainly a consultant I would recommend.
My consultation was short but I believe I was given good advice. Mr Allibone was pleasant and professional.
It was easy making an appointment with Mr. Allibone’s clinic even though I’m booking from abroad.
A very caring, gentle doctor with amazing experience. Mr Allibone has done some very difficult surgery that nobody else wanted to do.
Answers all my questions, listens, goes through the options and explains the follow up scan results in a clear understandable relaxed way. I successfully had a decompression on my spine over 4 years ago and I feel reassured by his expertise. His PA answers calls and responds to any queries promptly.
