Mr Guy Thorburn

Mr Guy Thorburn is an esteemed Consultant Plastic Surgeon based in Oxford, specialising in all aspects of paediatric plastic surgery. With over 25 years of experience, he has extensive expertise in facial reconstruction, ear correction surgery and septorhinoplasty, and also treats conditions such as vascular anomalies, haemangiomas and hypospadias. He sees private patients at The New Foscote Hospital and Nuffield Health The Manor Hospital in Oxford, alongside his NHS practice at Oxford University Hospitals.

Mr Thorburn qualified in medicine from the University of Nottingham in 1997. He completed his initial surgical training in the Midlands and North West before moving to London, where he undertook specialist training in plastic surgery. His paediatric plastic surgery training was completed at the internationally renowned Great Ormond Street Hospital and at St Andrew’s Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery, where he also worked as a substantive consultant plastic surgeon. He was later awarded two highly regarded fellowships: the National Interface Training Fellowship in Cleft Lip and Palate at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and an Aesthetic Fellowship at The London Clinic.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Thorburn has a strong and longstanding interest in medical ethics and law. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Manchester and is currently a member of the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust Clinical Ethics Advisory Group. He has previously served on the Great Ormond Street Hospital Clinical Ethics Committee and was a member of the General Medical Council’s Fitness to Practise panels for a decade between 2003 and 2013.

Mr Thorburn is on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He is also a member of several professional organisations, including the Craniofacial Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the Institute of Medical Ethics.
