About Mr Eamonn Coveney

Mr Eamonn Coveney is a Consultant General, Breast, and Endocrine Surgeon based in Bury St Edmunds. He was appointed to West Suffolk Hospital in 2000 and has been in private practice at St Edmunds Hospital since 2001. His clinical expertise includes the management of thyroid disease, gallbladder surgery, and abdominal wall hernias, with a particular focus on performing hernia repair under local anaesthesia.

Mr Coveney graduated in Medicine from University College Dublin in 1987 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1991. He subsequently undertook a Clinical Fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in the United States, where he conducted preclinical research into immune-based therapies for metastatic breast cancer. This research formed the basis of his Master of Surgery (MCh) degree, awarded in 2002.

After returning to the UK in 1997, he completed specialist surgical training in the East Anglian region, working at Ipswich and Addenbrooke’s Hospitals. Over the past decade, Mr Coveney has also developed recognised expertise in the use of clinical hypnosis to support patients undergoing surgery and to aid the management of chronic medical conditions. His practice integrates surgical precision with patient-focused, holistic care.

Staff couldn’t have been better. My only complaint would be the seating area. It was very uncomfortable and crowded. I always feel this about the seats in any hospital I’ve been to. Generally people are feeling pretty ill/tired when they come to hospital and a more comfortable seat would be so appreciated. Especially where people have to wait for long periods of time.

Very polite, informative and helpful. Excellent bedside manner, professional care quality & explanation & well described understanding of symptoms. Gave a great care plan that made sense. Went into depth of cause and reasoning of illness, which did become slightly confusing, but overall great care & I felt well looked after
