Mr Duncan McRae has been an ENT Consultant at Colchester General Hospital since 1996.He qualified from Barts, London in 1984 and trained in ENT at Barts Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, The Royal Liverpool Hospital and Alder Hey Children's Hospital. He was also awarded otology fellowships which allowed him to train at the KKR Centre in Chennai, India and a TWJ Otology Fellowship to the Causse Institute in Beziers, France. He was among the first wave of endoscopic sinus surgeons to be be trained in the UK and has used this experise to train many present day teaching hospital consultants.
Mr McRae specialises in rhinology (nose and sinus problems) and otology as well as general ENT problems such as tonsillitis, sore throats, hoarse voice, swallowing difficulty and snoring. His special interests are nasal problems including blocked nose, sinusitis, nasal polyps, epistaxis (nose bleed), endoscopic sinus surgery, and ear problems including hearing loss, vertigo, tinnitus, ear pain (otalgia) and ear discharge (otorrhoea.
Mr McRae is actively involved in education. He has been a teacher on the Cambridge Endoscopic Sinus Surgery course since 1998 and is the co-author of Key Topics in Otolaryngology now in its third edition and the most popular revision book for FRCS, and book chapters in his area of expertise.
