Mr David O'Connor

Mr David O'Connor is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon specialising in hand, wrist and elbow orthopaedic and trauma pathology. His practice covers soft tissue soft tissue elbow ( Tennis and Golfers Elbow ), nerve compressions ( Carpal and Cubital Tunnel Syndromes ), variety of treatments for Dupuytrens contracture, arthritis and joint replacement in the hand and wrist including thumb joint replacement, trapeziectomy, wrist replacement and wrist fusion. An established practice in bone marrow blood injection / Stem cell treatments commonly for the elbow or tendinitis type problems.

Mr O'Connor studied medicine at the University of Wales College of Medicine in Cardiff from 1982 to 1987. He completed the Primary FRCS in Edinburgh in 1990, FRCS England in 1992 and the Intercollegiate FRCS (Tr & Orth) in 1998, with recognised CCST. He subsequently undertook hand and upper limb fellowships in Windsor in 1999 and the prestigious hand unit of Sydney, Australia, from 1999 to 2000.

Appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon in Bournemouth and Poole in 2000, Mr O'Connor has extensive experience in orthopaedics and trauma. He maintains his professional development through regular continuing professional development and appraisal. His research interests include hand and upper limb surgery and he has 15 publications across a broad spectrum of orthopaedics and trauma.

Mr O'Connor approach ensures accurate communication tailored to the needs of the patient, shared decision making that includes all treatment options with known success rates and an open discussion of known risk factors. Guidance where needed. Clinic documents are copied to patients with a request to read, reflect on decisions and make further contact if any questions or concerns prior to treatment. Annual appraisal ensures a peer reviewed practice with patient and colleague feedback shared with all hospitals where treatment and surgeries are provided.
