Dr David Anderson

Mr David Anderson is a Consultant Opthalmic surgeon with specialist interests in refractive cataract surgery, laser eye surgery, corneal transplant surgery and the treatment of corneal disease. He graduated from St Thomas' Hospital in 1989, having been awarded the prestigious Duke-Elder Award - a national ophthalmology prize. He then went on to complete an undergraduate training programme at Harvard Medical School.

Mr Anderson began his career with surgical positions at St Bartholomew's and St Georges Hospitals in London and soon after undertook higher surgical training at Southampton University Eye Unit.

Mr Anderson was awarded a national scholarship following his PhD enabling him to undertake a post-doctorate position at the award winning Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. On returning from the USA, Mr Anderson was selected for fellowships at the internationally renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.

Mr Anderson is a recognised expert in laser vision correction across many platforms and provides SMILE, LASIK and complex and therapeutic treatments. He has instructed in wavefront-guided and topography driven treatments and has introduced Presbyond laser treatment for presbyopia to the South of England.

Mr Anderson is a recognised expert in corneal transplant surgery and has led the corneal service for many years at University Hospital Southampton introducing and performing lamellar transplant techniques including DALK and endothelial replacement surgery.

Mr Anderson leads the cataract service and is an expert in refractive cataract surgery including the correction of astigmatism and the use of a variety of multifocal and extended depth of focus new technologies.

Mr Anderson is widely published with over 50 peer reviewed publications, several book chapters and >2500 citations. He has lectured widely nationally and internationally and has trained surgeons from many countries running a leading Fellowship programme at Southampton for more than a decade.
