Mr. Christopher Young is a highly esteemed consultant cardiovascular surgeon with a remarkable record of performing over 10,000 heart operations. Recently, Mr. Young transitioned from his long-standing consultancy at St Thomas’ Hospital, where he was one of only two surgeons qualified to perform TAVI procedures, to dedicate more time to his private practice. Currently, he serves as the senior clinical lead for cardiovascular services across all HCA UK facilities and continues his clinical work at London Bridge Hospital.
Mr. Young specializes in aortic valve surgery, with a focus on minimally invasive keyhole surgery techniques. His expertise includes:
Mr. Young employs keyhole approaches in all valve operations and in over 80% of aneurysm cases, significantly exceeding the UK average, where less than 15% of aortic valve surgeries are performed using keyhole techniques.
In addition to his surgical skills, Mr. Young is renowned as an exceptional trainer, having educated over 400 clinicians in the past decade. He lectures internationally, conducts live surgical training sessions, and mentors younger surgeons, enhancing their proficiency and confidence in keyhole procedures.
Mr. Young remains passionately committed to keyhole cardiac surgery, emphasizing its considerable benefits, including reduced surgical impact and faster patient recovery. He states, “We can achieve so much through keyhole incisions. The reduced surgical impact is highly significant for patients, allowing them to recover their health and mobility much more quickly.”

Where can I start? Dr Young was the co-lead surgeon in my Aortic replacement surgery. when you first find out your head spins around like a mad man. But after my consultation with Dr Young all the chaotic thoughts had been taken away, and the trust came in the way he talked and explained everything it all was done in a very clear manor. he made me feel comfortable and that was all I needed. All the consultations leading up to the surgery were clear and making me assured that all would be good. post surgery he was very much there all the way up to my discharge there were not many day that he didn't visit me during my Month in London Bridge Hospital. for this I'm very grateful. all are contacts are very good and in a friendly manor. He is a fantastic Dr and I'm glad I have him in my Corner. Hans
Mr. Chris Young: Exceptional Skill, Outstanding Care, Extraordinary Humanity, and a Life-Changing Outcome I underwent a Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) and cannot express strongly enough my admiration and profound gratitude for Mr. Chris Young and his exceptional team. From our very first consultation, he immediately put both me and my partner at ease during an incredibly frightening and uncertain time. Across multiple visits, he took the time to explain every stage of the procedure in clear detail, combining outstanding professionalism and expertise with genuine empathy, ensuring we fully understood what lay ahead. On the day of surgery, his calm confidence, warmth, and attention to detail reassured us completely that we were in the very best hands. That care continued well beyond the operating theatre. Mr. Chris Young visited daily in hospital, checking not only my physical recovery but my overall wellbeing, patiently answering questions and consistently reassuring both me and my partner about my progress. A CABG is far more than a procedure, it’s a life-altering journey for both the patient and their family. From the first consultation through every stage of the process, Mr. Chris Young and his seamless, exceptional team, guided and supported us with extraordinary expertise, empathy, warmth, and kindness. Read moreI can't recommend Mr Young enough. The time between our initial meeting with him and surgery was one week. Following which I was home in another week. He explained the procedure up front clearly, explaining alternatives and offered his recommendation, which we followed. Post op treatment daily visits were informative and helpful, I felt I was in excellent hands throughout.
My experience with Mr Christopher Young and his Senior Medical Secretary, Pamela Stewart was outstanding. Mr Young is a highly experienced and accomplished surgeon, in whom I had complete confidence. At my first consultation, he clearly explained the options available to me and gave me his considered advice, which I was content to take. The procedure went very well, and I am recovering very satisfactorily. Most importantly my heart is working more efficiently I have been energised by the whole experience.
Very clear explanation of the rationale for needing to have procedure (given I had no symptoms) and very reassuring in terms of the risks of the procedure itself and the prognosis.
I found Mr Young excellent in all respects of his treatment. I was required to have open heart surgery at short notice and he instilled confidence throughout the whole process of pre-op and post-op. I had no symptoms ahead of the operation so the whole thing was a bit of shock. Some 10 months later I feel fit and well. At age 71 I am enjoying life and skiing better than before my operation. While I don’t think the improvement is down to the operation the fact I am still here to do is !
Confident and reassuring. Excellent explanation of the problem and how to fix it delivered in a manner that was clear and understandable.
I consider myself extremely fortunate to have been operated on and cared for by Mr Young and his anaesthetist. The standard of care both pre-, during and after were superb.
Chris has a relaxed informal style that puts you at ease. His level of experience gives you great confidence and assurance. He also goes the extra mile to ensure everything is properly followed up in terms of post operative care
From the moment I met Mr. Young, I felt in safe hands. From pre-operation guidance and care to the hospital stay, every detail was meticulously planned. Most importantly, all of this was done with a human touch. Mr. Young and his team leave nothing to chance ! I would also like to thank his assistant Ms. Stewart who has been very kind to me.
A world class surgeon with extraordinay clinical skills. Mr Young is dedicated to securing the best outcome for his patients, and it is always a pleasure to work with.
