Mr Amit Patel

Mr Amit Patel is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions, with clinical interests spanning joint replacement, knee reconstruction and modern orthopaedic techniques. He graduated from Southampton Medical School in 2003 before undertaking his early surgical training at Southampton General Hospital and progressing through higher orthopaedic training on the Stoke/Oswestry Orthopaedic Training Programme. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2013 and subsequently completed an advanced fellowship at the Exeter Knee Reconstruction Unit.

His specialist practice includes hip and knee replacement surgery, knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, cartilage repair and regeneration, patella realignment and knee realignment procedures. He has particular interests in patient-specific and computer-assisted knee replacement techniques, as well as enhanced recovery and the management of infection in orthopaedic surgery. Mr Patel focuses on personalised care to each patient and adopts an evidence based approach to his practice. 

Active in research, Mr Patel has also published papers across trauma and orthopaedic surgery, including infection in joint arthroplasty and the epidemiology of primary and revision arthroplasty. He has presented these both nationally and internationally at conferences and meetings.

Alongside this he is dedicated to medical education and contributed to teaching and training the future generation of surgeons.
