Mr Aaron Sweeney

Mr Aaron Sweeney is a consultant vascular surgeon, qualifying in 1992 from University College Dublin medical school. In 1995, he then moved to London and entered specialist surgical training, becoming dual-qualified in both general surgery and vascular surgery, going on to become one of the youngest ever consultants in vascular surgery when he was appointed to University Hospital Lewisham in 2002.

Mr Sweeney later became honorary consultant vascular surgeon to Bromley, Sidcup and King's College Hospitals and was given a substantive appointment as consultant vascular surgeon to Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital. He then became the Clinical Director of Surgery at Lewisham Hospital and was instrumental in the centralisation of emergency vascular surgery at St. Thomas' in 2008 after spending the first 6 years of his consultant career offering a pro bono regional on call vascular service for South-East London and Kent.

In 2014 Mr Sweeney entered full-time private practice and now runs a large vascular surgery practice which he heads jointly with his medical colleague and friend, Mr Eddie Chaloner, himself a consultant vascular surgeon. His medical achievements are not to be overlooked; together with Mr Chaloner, they pioneered the use of lasers in venous surgery and brought Laser Vein Surgery to both the NHS and private medical practice.

Mr Sweeney's main focus moved to minimally invasive vein surgery and cosmetic venous surgery and year on year he performs more than 1000 laser and other minimally invasive vein treatments.
