About Dr Michael Rowe

Dr Michael Rowe is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist and Clinical Specialty Lead for Oncology at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust.

He specialises in urological, upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary cancers. His expertise includes prostate, bladder, upper tract urothelial, kidney, oesophageal, gastric, pancreatic, liver and biliary tract cancers.

His clinical interests include radiotherapy and systemic anti-cancer treatment, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted therapy. Dr Rowe has a particular interest in complex radiotherapy, including stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) and image-guided treatment approaches. His work also incorporates genomic testing and biomarker interpretation where these can inform treatment selection or eligibility.

For patients requiring complex oncology care, Dr Rowe provides multidisciplinary treatment planning and treatment sequencing across curative and palliative settings. He also offers second opinions, including reviews of treatment options, established standards, newer treatment approaches and biomarker results.

Dr Rowe completed his medical qualification at the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth in 2012 before undertaking higher specialty training in Clinical Oncology in the South West Peninsula region.

Research forms another part of his work. Dr Rowe has chaired a national trainee research collaborative and is a Principal Investigator on clinical trials. He is also involved in medical leadership and co-hosts the weekly Simply Oncology podcast, which focuses on oncology education.
