About Mr Michael Brown

Mr Michael Brown is a specialist orthopaedic knee surgeon based in Glasgow, with particular expertise in ligament injuries, sports knee surgery, and both partial and total knee replacement, including robotic-arm assisted surgery using the MAKO system. He also has expertise in patellofemoral (kneecap) instability.

He studied medicine at the University of Glasgow, graduating in 2011, and completed his orthopaedic surgical training in the West of Scotland before undertaking fellowship training in Perth and at OrthoSport Victoria in Melbourne, Australia. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2020.

Mr Brown practises within the NHS at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow, and privately at Nuffield Health Glasgow Hospital. He takes a patient-centred approach, prioritising shared decision-making to help patients understand their treatment options and reach the outcome that's right for them.

His private practice covers the full range of knee surgery, including:

  • Partial and total knee replacement (including MAKO robotic-arm assisted surgery)
  • ACL reconstruction and other ligament reconstruction
  • Knee arthroscopy for meniscal tears and cartilage injuries
  • Osteotomy for knee realignment and joint preservation
  • Patellar (kneecap) stabilisation surgery for instability and dislocation

Mr Brown has a particular special interest in arthroscopic soft tissue reconstruction of the knee, and in joint preservation techniques for younger, active patients wishing to delay or avoid joint replacement.

Michael was fantastic and took me seriously which I felt not many doctors had before. The pain was in my knee but due to sciatica the problem was in my back, he ordered me an MRI and recommended someone who was able to go over the results. Micheal was very friendly and helpful.
