Dr Maliha Shaikh

Dr Maliha Shaikh is a highly regarded Consultant Rheumatologist with dual accreditation in General Medicine. She has a particular specialist interest in early inflammatory arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and chronic pain, which she continues to focus on in her NHS practice. Dr Shaikh also possesses specialist expertise in managing various aspects of general rheumatology, including osteoarthritis, connective tissue disease, vasculitis, osteoporosis, gout, and reactive arthritis. Her NHS practice is based at Barts Health NHS Trust, where she holds the position of axial spondyloarthropathy lead.

With her keen interest in chronic musculoskeletal pain and fibromyalgia, Dr Shaikh collaborates with pain specialists, clinical psychology, and physiotherapy to run a multidisciplinary fibromyalgia clinic. She strongly believes in patient involvement and considers it integral to their management. Throughout her training, she has actively worked with charities such as the National Spondyloarthritis Society (NASS) and the National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society to ensure patient engagement.

Dr Shaikh is also passionate about medical education and serves as the educational lead for the undergraduate musculoskeletal program at Whipps Cross University Hospital. She acts as an educational supervisor to junior doctors and mentors and supervises allied health colleagues, including nurses and physiotherapists, in completing higher professional studies.
