Dr Layla Thurston

Dr Layla Thurston is a Consultant Endocrinologist specialising in endocrinology and diabetes. She provides comprehensive care for a wide spectrum of endocrine and metabolic conditions, offering patient-centred management plans designed to optimise hormonal health and general well-being. Her clinical work encompasses both general internal medicine and complex hormonal disorders, ensuring that patients receive objective, thorough, and reassuring clinical care.

Dr Thurston graduated from the University of Manchester in 2013, earning a dual honours degree in Medicine and European Studies. She completed her foundation and core medical training before undertaking Specialist Registrar training in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and General Internal Medicine. She subsequently completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Neuroendocrinology, focusing on reproductive hormone pathways and novel therapeutic targets. Dr Thurston is a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) and actively participates in national professional bodies, including serving on the committee of the Young Diabetologists & Endocrinologists' Forum and maintaining membership with the Society for Endocrinology.

With broad expertise across endocrine and metabolic disciplines, Dr Thurston has sub-specialty interests in neuroendocrinology, reproductive endocrinology, hypothalamic amenorrhoea, and hyponatraemia. Her expertise extends to the management of adrenal insufficiency, steroid weaning protocols, thyroid disease, and complex diabetes conditions, including type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetes-related foot disease, and diabetes technology. Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Thurston is dedicated to medical education, regularly teaching undergraduate students and lecturing junior doctors preparing for postgraduate membership examinations.
