A graduate of the University of Aberdeen (BSc Med Sci, MB ChB, 2002), Mr Macaulay completed his surgical training in Northern Ireland before undertaking two prestigious international Fellowships. He gained advanced expertise in laparoscopic and Upper GI surgery at Concord Hospital in Sydney, Australia, followed by further specialist training at the renowned Oesophago-gastric Unit at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.

Mr Macaulay’s clinical interests include the investigation and surgical management of abdominal pain, gallstones, swallowing disorders, heartburn, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), stomach and oesophageal cancers, and abdominal wall hernias. He offers a full range of procedures using both traditional open surgery and minimally invasive keyhole techniques tailored to each patient’s needs.

He has particular expertise in anti-reflux surgery (including fundoplication), achalasia surgery, and laparoscopic hernia repairs.
