Mr. George McKay is a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at The Priory Hospital and Droitwich Spa Hospital, with his NHS practice based at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham. A fellowship-trained spinal specialist, he manages the full spectrum of degenerative and deformity conditions across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbosacral spine, offering comprehensive care for both complex and routine spinal pathologies.
Mr. McKay has extensive experience in treating spinal deformities from birth through adulthood, and his paediatric spinal practice is based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. His paediatric work encompasses early and late-onset scoliosis, as well as neuromuscular and congenital spinal disorders.
He received his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Orthopaedic Surgery from the Severn Deanery, after which he undertook advanced spinal surgery fellowships with leading UK and international experts.
Mr. McKay gained additional neurosurgical expertise through a fellowship at Southmead Hospital, Bristol, a major trauma and tertiary referral centre, where he developed specialist skills in the management of cervical spine conditions, cranio-cervical and atlantoaxial pathology, and cervical disc replacement. He also gained exposure to intradural and thoracolumbar degenerative surgery.
His international training includes a year-long paediatric spine fellowship at Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney, one of Australia’s largest paediatric spine centres, where his research was presented internationally in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. He later completed an additional fellowship at Middlemore Hospital, Auckland, the supra-regional spinal trauma hub for New Zealand’s North Island, focusing on adult deformity, degenerative cervical spine conditions, and emergency spinal surgery.

First rate in all respects. I had total trust and confidence in Mr McKAY.
Mr McKay cares for his patients. Is highly knowledgable and very informative. I would recommend him, no question.
I first saw Mr. McKay over three years ago for a disc issue that was causing significant sciatic symptoms, at which time I received a spinal injection. More recently, I returned to see him regarding a (suspected) cervical neck issue as well as ongoing back pain. On every occasion, Mr. McKay has been extremely professional and has taken the time to explain everything very clearly and thoroughly. He makes complex issues easy to understand, which is incredibly reassuring when dealing with spinal problems. I’ve always felt listened to and never rushed. It’s rare to find a specialist you can genuinely trust, and Mr. McKay is certainly one of them. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking expert and compassionate spinal care.
Mr McKay explained everything clearly and is extremely personable making it easy to ask questions.
I found Mr McKay to be extremely helpful, and understanding on my recent visit.
Mr McKay was excellent in pointing out options. I also loved his integrity in what could work without guarantees. He was not pushy at all. My first visit with having 4 injections by Mr McKay was excellent. As discussed I was able to go back to work the next day and am looking forward to having another procedure. Mr McKay came highly recommended to me and I would highly recommend him to any person in need of back help or support. .
It was an excellent experience. Dr McKay is always very friendly and accommodating along with being vey professional, with a clear explanation of any potential symptoms and possible options for treatment.
Mr McKay answered all my questions. He discussed my symptoms fully and organised various tests to ascertain the extent of my problem. At the follow up meeting the tests were discussed and a follow up plan organised.
The treatment I received for a herniated lumbar spine disc was second to none. Mr McKay was straight talking, reassuring and friendly. The team and all the staff at The Priory treated me like a VIP.
George is a great asset to our trust and his patients. He has a real passion for achieving more than excellent results, and has a deep ambition for using modern techniques to deliver these results for his patients! Couldn’t recommend him enough!
