Mr Gareth Medlock

Mr Gareth Medlock is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon based in Aberdeen, specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery and the management of complex orthopaedic trauma. He has been a Consultant with NHS Grampian since 2018, with expertise in robotic-assisted joint replacement, muscle-sparing hip surgery and lower limb reconstruction.

Mr Medlock graduated from the University of Glasgow Medical School in 2006 before completing specialist orthopaedic training in Aberdeen. He subsequently completed an advanced subspecialty fellowship in trauma and lower limb arthroplasty at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada, where he gained additional expertise in complex trauma surgery and primary and revision joint replacement.

His elective practice focuses on hip and knee arthroplasty, including MAKO robotic-assisted total hip replacement, total knee replacement and partial knee replacement. He also offers direct anterior muscle-sparing hip replacement for selected patients. Alongside elective surgery, Mr Medlock plays a key role within the North of Scotland Major Trauma Service, managing complex upper and lower limb fractures, pelvic and acetabular injuries, and fracture non-unions.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Medlock has a commitment to postgraduate education and surgical training. He is the lead for orthopaedic trainee education within the North of Scotland Deanery and convenes a postgraduate orthopaedic course at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
