About Dr Farhan Zaidi
Mr Farhan Zaidi is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Surgeon with extensive expertise in oculoplastic surgery, medical retina, and general ophthalmology. He graduated from University College London Medical School in 1994 with an MBBS (Hons), earning multiple prizes, including one for greatest overall proficiency.
He trained at leading London teaching hospitals, including UCL and Barts, gaining experience across general surgery before obtaining the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS). He worked on the Professorial Unit of Plastic Surgery at UCL Hospitals before completing his ophthalmology specialty training in London, including rotations at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Mr Zaidi undertook fellowships in oculoplastic surgery and medical retina and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). He also completed a PhD in ophthalmology at Imperial College London, producing widely cited research.
Mr Zaidi has substantive experience as an NHS consultant ophthalmologist, including emergency ophthalmology. Since 2017, he has served as a consultant in Southampton and as Clinical Lead for the South West London Diabetic Eye Screening Services, managing eye care for over 80,000 patients. In 2024, he was appointed National Clinical Safety Officer (NECSWS) for digital retinal screening across the UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. His practice combines advanced surgical skill, research expertise, and leadership in diabetic eye care and digital ophthalmology.
