About Dr. Farah Mitha

I am a Counselling Psychologist, psychotherapist and accredited CBT therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience across NHS and private practice. I work with adults providing evidence-based psychological therapy tailored to individual needs. My practice focuses on collaborative treatment planning with support for both short-term therapeutic goals and longer-term psychological work.

My clinical interests include anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), stress, affective disorders and relationship difficulties. I have a particular interest in OCD and provide specialist trauma treatment using Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also offer coaching, psychometric testing, professional supervision and mindfulness-informed approaches where appropriate.

I use an integrative therapeutic approach based primarily on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while incorporating other evidence-based modalities according to presentation and treatment goals. These include behavioural activation, person centered therapy, mindfulness-based CBT, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic therapy, solution focused brief therapy, transactional analysis and trauma-focused CBT.

My qualifications include a Diploma in Integrative Counselling from University of Essex (2006), a PGDip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy from University of Hertfordshire (2011), an MSc in Psychology from University of East London (2012), and a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from City, University of London. I am registered with the HCPC and am affiliated with  BABCP and the British Psychological Society.

Farah is amazing. She listens without any judgement and makes you feel really safe to open up. She’s got loads of experience and helps you see things from different perspectives, which honestly makes a big difference. She also gives you practical tips and techniques to get through tough times. I genuinely don’t think I could have got through the last year without her.

Farah has been my psychologist for over a year, and from the very beginning I found her to be warm, caring, and approachable. She listens attentively and has a remarkable ability to unpack things that I would otherwise overlook. She often helps me see that there is far more beneath the surface than the words themselves — moments that really demonstrate her skill in getting to the heart of an issue. Farah brings genuine care, empathy, and understanding to every session. She creates a space where it’s clear that what you’re facing is real and valid, while also guiding you through what can be deeply personal and challenging work. She doesn’t shy away from difficult topics, yet always approaches them with sensitivity and respect. I’ve made meaningful progress working with Farah — more so than with previous therapists — and I intend to continue until I feel I’ve truly resolved what I’m working through.

I highly recommend Farah for her straightforward yet deeply compassionate approach. She quickly understands the core issues and addresses them in a clear, practical way that feels both supportive and effective. My sessions with her have significantly increased my self-awareness, and I’ve found them consistently valuable and genuinely useful in helping me move forward.

I honestly can’t recommend Farah enough, and struggle to articulate exactly how important she has been to helping me to have a happy and calm mind. The support of regular therapy with her has been totally life changing for me. In addition to being a compassionate listener, she would challenge me when I needed it which helped me so much.
