Dr Emily Hoodless

Dr. Emily Hoodless is a Consultant in Respiratory Medicine with specialist expertise in chronic respiratory disease, respiratory intervention, lung cancer diagnostics, integrated respiratory care, and respiratory problems in sport and exercise.

She completed her specialist training in Respiratory and General Medicine in the Merseyside region and was admitted to the Specialist Register in 2021. Her NHS practice is based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and she also sees private patients at Spire Liverpool Hospital, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, and Pall Mall Medical.

Dr. Hoodless assesses and manages a wide range of respiratory conditions, including asthma, COPD, chronic cough, breathlessness, bronchiectasis, and other chronic lung diseases. She has particular expertise in respiratory intervention and is proficient in diagnostic bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for lymph node sampling, and more specialised interventional respiratory procedures where appropriate.

She also has a strong interest in lung cancer diagnosis and assessment, using advanced respiratory investigations to support accurate diagnosis and guide treatment planning.

Another key area of interest is respiratory health in athletes and physically active individuals. Dr. Hoodless works closely with specialist Exercise Respiratory Physiologists to assess lung function and breathing performance in athletes and high-performance sportspeople, helping to identify respiratory limitations and optimise treatment and performance.

Her diagnostic services include spirometry, lung function testing, bronchoscopy, EBUS, specialist respiratory assessment, and CAA exercise testing.

Alongside clinical practice, Dr. Hoodless is actively involved in medical education. She is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Liverpool, supports medical student teaching, and has contributed to national recruitment processes for doctors entering specialist training.

She places strong emphasis on clear communication, thorough assessment, and practical, evidence-based treatment plans designed to help patients better understand their condition, manage symptoms, and improve quality of life.
