About Dr Fred Ushakov
Dr Fred Ushakov is Founder and Managing Director of London Pregnancy Clinic. He has over 30 years' experience working in fetal medicine and has vast expertise in ultrasound techniques. He also works part-time at the UCLH Fetal Medicine Unit, having gained recognition as the most skilled ultrasound operator.
Dr Ushakov is also founder of the London School of Ultrasound, where he has lectured doctors and sonographers from more than 100 countries. He founded the Early Fetal Scan Conference, a scientific event that seeks to raise awareness among professionals to recognise and manage different fetal abnormalities. Furthermore, Dr Ushakov has been appointed as an Ambassador of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He has a particular interest in the training and support of doctors in other countries to help them to protect and preserve the health of mothers and unborn babies. He runs, with the support of ISUOG, many ultrasound and fetal medicine courses in the UK, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Peru, Portugal, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, where many doctors have no opportunity to participate in expensive international congresses and courses. In 2024 he began working on pioneering SMART Test NIPT.

Understanding NIPT - Your Guide to Safer Pregnancy Screening
NIPT stands for Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing. It is a type of prenatal screening test that analyses the cell-free DNA (cfDNA) fragments from the placenta that circulate in a pregnant woman's blood. This test can be done from 10 weeks and provides information about the genetic health of a developing fetus without posing any risk to the pregnancy. It predominantly screens for 3 chromosomal anomalies: Down’s Syndrome (Trisomy 21 or T21 – over 99% detection rate) Edward’s Syndrome (Trisomy 18 or T18 – 97.4% detection rate) Patau’s Syndrome (Trisomy 13 or T13 – 93.8% detection rate) The figures above are the published detection rates for the Harmony NIPT.
