About Dr Carl Shakespeare
Dr Carl Shakespeare is a Consultant Cardiologist. He currently works within St Thomas's Hospital in London. He previously held the role of Lead Consultant Cardiologist at Queen Elizabeth Hospital for 18 years. He also sees patients in a private setting at the Blackheath, Lister and London Independent Hospitals.
Dr Shakespeare began his medical education at Westminster Medical School, graduating in 1984. He then progressed onto his specialist training at several London-based clinics including the National Heart Hospital, St Thomas', St George's and the Royal London Hospital. He was awarded a fellowship by the British Heart Foundation in 1989 to further develop his cardiology skills. Following this, he became a fully accredited specialist in Internal Medicine and Cardiology.
Dr Shakespeare is an active member of the research community, with over 40 peer-reviewed publications. He is also the Clinical Director of the SE London Cardiac Network and Regional Advisor to the British Cardiac Society and the Royal College of Physicians.

I have been seeing Carl on and off for 30 years, not only is he a brilliant Cardiologist with a superb bedside manner, he has also become a friend!
Dr Shakespeare is the ideal person to go to when worried about one’s heart, which is a very scary condition He was friendly, empathetic, amenable, reassuring.. He was warm rather than just coldly professional I wasn’t treated like a commodity, and he didn’t ignore me as a person and type into a computer as most doctors do these days! He explained everything to me in detail and made it simple so I could understand. He explained the results of the tests. He was interested in further diagnostics so he could see what exactly was wrong and how it could be treated. I wish I could afford to continue my treatment with him. I would recommend Dr Shakespeare to anyone with a heart problem. He is knowledgeable, efficient, and genuinely interested.
I had the first consultation with Doctor Carl, and I was amazed on how he goes above and beyond the patient’s expectations.
Following a high calcium score from a health assessment CT scan, I was referred to a cardiologist. I chose Dr Shakespeare at Blackheath and am very grateful for his care, professionalism and timely steps he took to arrive at a prompt diagnosis, through his detailed evaluation and testing. Dr Shakespeare is highly qualified, but, most important of all applies a clear, communicative, helpful and friendly approach with his patients. Overall, my consultation with Dr Shakespeare exceeded expectations. I was able to able to establish my heart and hypertension health concerns (in 2 weeks) and can now take the opportunity to address these with my GP through identified steps & medication.
Really a very good experience. Dr Shakespeare explained the issue clearly and thoroughly, which helped put my mind at ease and removed my worries. I felt reassured and well cared for during the consultation.
One has total confidence that one is in the best possible hands towards ensuring a long life which otherwise would not have been possible .
