Simon Chan is a consultant gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation trust and an honorary lecturer in gastroenterology at the Norwich Medical School, University of East Anglia. He is interested in all aspects of gastroenterology but in particular upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, coeliac disease and other colonic disorders.
He did his undergraduate medical training at the University of Cambridge where he was also awarded a PhD on immune responses to the gastrointestinal pathogen Salmonella. Following junior doctor posts throughout East Anglia, including Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge he
completed his specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine in the East of England Deanery. During this time he held a 4 year National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) clinical lectureship investigating the role of environmental and dietary factors in the aetiology of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. This has lead to the publication of numerous research papers, presentations at international meetings and several book chapters.
