Dr Rani Bora is a holistic consultant psychiatrist, coach, author, and speaker with a wide range of experience supporting individuals with stress and burnout to those with complex mental health challenges to experience more peace of mind and lead a meaningful life. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and integrates evidence-based psychiatric practice with lifestyle medicine and mental health coaching.
Dr Bora began integrating coaching approaches alongside her psychiatric training in 2007. Over time, she recognised that conventional models and tools often did not fully meet the needs of individuals experiencing ongoing distress, particularly those defined primarily by diagnostic labels or reliant on long-term medication. This led her to develop a more holistic, integrative approach that emphasises personal recovery, self-understanding, and agency.
She was one of the founding members of the Recovery College in Somerset, helping to
embed recovery-oriented principles within the courses on offer. This work was grounded in the belief that people are more than their diagnoses, and that hope, empowerment, education, and self-direction are central to sustainable mental wellbeing.
Dr Bora’s clinical interests include (not limited):
Her approach considers mental health within a wider context, including physical, emotional and spiritual health, emotional patterns, trauma, lifestyle factors, and personal meaning. Alongside thorough psychiatric assessment and medication management when needed, she works collaboratively with individuals to develop insight, self-empowerment strategies, and goals that support long-term resilience and quality of life.
Through her clinical work, coaching programmes and wellbeing workshops, Dr Bora supports individuals, professionals and leaders to move beyond chronic stress and anxiety, build psychological resilience, and live with greater clarity, balance, and purpose.

Dr. Bora’s asks poignant, specific and meaningful questions to be able to derive a deep and true understanding of the patient. Her aim is not to leave and categorise , but to see the individual in front of her and he to the root of the issues they may be struggling with. In addition to the gentle nature of her inquisitive investigation, I felt I could place full trust in her as we start the tapering process of my psychiatric medication through the precision of her assessment and personally tailored methodology, always with my wellbeing in mind. Her holistic approach to psychiatry and health in general makes her unique.
We are incredibly grateful to have found Dr. Rani Bora. It is hard to find a psychiatrist to support safe tapering of antipsychotic medication. Her approach is exceptionally thorough and compassionate. She doesn’t just manage symptoms; she looks at the whole person. Dr Bora took the time to review our daughter’s background and met with us both collectively and individually. It is clear she is dedicated to a model of full recovery that prioritises the patient's long-term health and well-being. We feel very fortunate to have her guidance.

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful words. It truly means a lot. I strongly believe in taking the time to understand each person’s unique story and in supporting recovery in a way that honours the whole person. It has been a privilege to meet with you both, and I look forward to continuing to support your daughter on her journey while also working alongside your family as a whole. I’m grateful for the trust you have placed in me.
I had a 90-minute video consultation with Dr Bora, and it was genuinely one of the most valuable appointments I've ever had. She took the time to understand me as a person - my traits, my habits and my history. Most importantly, she listened. Not just listened, but really heard me, and for the first time I felt truly understood. We worked through everything together and came away with a clear, considered plan. Dr Bora was warm, professional, and thorough throughout. I cannot recommend her highly enough to anyone who has felt unheard or frustrated by previous experiences.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is good to know that you felt truly heard and understood during our consultation. Creating a space where we can explore things together and develop a clear, thoughtful plan collaboratively is very important. I’m grateful for your trust and look forward to supporting you in your journey.
Finding Dr Rani and her community is honestly a dream come true. This community of support is something I've been looking for many years. I would call this social psychiatry. Rani is so approachable and meets you on your level, not the usual I'm the 'expert' vibe. Her compassion for peoples overall wellbeing really oozes from her but what really stands out is her ability not just 'symptoms' but the wide racial and personal context as well. Ranis approach is holistic, transparent and collaborative. Already, with Rani and her community support I feel more positive and in control of my life going forward,

Thank you so much for sharing this. It means a great deal to know that you feel supported, understood and empowered within the community. We've tried our best to a space that feels human, collaborative and grounded in the wider context of each person’s life, not just symptoms.
Really kind, holistic approach to mental wellbeing - more specifically deprescribing,

Thank you for taking the time to share this. A thoughtful, holistic approach, including careful deprescribing where appropriate is central to how we work, so I’m pleased this came through.
I started with the Holistic Psychiatry Practice after being polydrugged and let down by several other psychiatrists and health professionals. Their approach is refreshing and helped me realize there are people who dont automatically prescribe drugs for mental health challenges. I saw Rani in person recently after several online consultations. She has always been empathetic and helpful in my drug tapering journey, and very good at suggesting professionals to help me further. I would thoroughly recommend the practice as a healthier option for people facing mental health challenges of any kind. I

Thank you for sharing your experience so openly. I’m really glad you felt supported and listened to, especially after such a challenging journey. It’s important to us to offer a thoughtful, individualised approach and to support people with care, collaboration, and the right wider support when needed. We know this journey can feel incredibly difficult at times. Keeping hope alive, focusing on the progress made so far, valuing tiny steps forward, and remembering that recovery is possible can make a real difference. Wishing you continued progress and wellbeing as you move forward.
I saw Dr Bora following a mental health crisis. Our consultation was the turning point for me for regaining full health and stability. Talking to her was very different compared to other psychiatrists I had seen; she’s a fantastic listener who is dedicated to helping people on their individual journeys. Her approach is affirming and offered so much positivity in how to move forward towards where I wanted to get. I have a lot more confidence now, and am relieved knowing I have a doctor I can contact who I trust to help me grow and not be reliant on medication.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. I’m really glad our consultation was a turning point for you, and it means a lot to hear that you felt listened to, supported, and more confident moving forward. Supporting people in a way that feels affirming and aligned with their individual journey is very important to me. I wish you continued stability, growth, and wellbeing.
