Dr Peter Golledge

Dr Peter Golledge is a Consultant Cardiologist at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester, and formerly Wessex Cardiothoracic Unit at Southampton University Hospital, and mainly Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital as part of Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and Sarum Road Hospital, Winchseter and The Candover Clinic and ward in Basingstoke, attached to North Hampshire Hospital. He qualified in medicine from the University of Manchester in 1989.

Dr Golledge undertook early clinical training in cardiothoracic and transplantation medicine at Wythenshawe Hospital, South Manchester, before completing general internal medicine training in Stoke-on-Trent and obtaining Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 1993. He subsequently undertook further specialist training in nephrology in Sydney, Australia, followed by postgraduate cardiology training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, The Royal London Hospital, and the London Chest Hospital.

Dr Golledge spent two years in academic research as a British Heart Foundation Junior Fellow based at Charterhouse Square, University of London, and the London Chest Hospital. His research focused on free radical species, nitric oxide generation, and platelet activation during coronary angioplasty. The final phase of his registrar training included specialist experience in cardiovascular assessment for high-risk obstetric patients at The Royal London Hospital, alongside the management of complex hypertension. He was appointed to his consultant cardiology post in 2004.

In addition to providing comprehensive general adult cardiology care, Dr Golledge has specialist interests in invasive cardiology, coronary artery disease, coronary angioplasty, cardiac and cardio-renal failure, hypertension, transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography, and cardiac pacing.
